The China Post news staff--Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) yesterday explained the approximately NT$100 million quoted for the replacement of anchor bolts at nuclear power plants amid criticisms that the products can be sourced at a fraction of that price. Wang Chung-hsien, deputy director of Taipower's nuclear power generation department, said anchor bolts on nuclear reactors cannot be handled by general engineering firms because they must meet nuclear safety standards and require advanced engineering expertise.
