Fangchenggang nuclear power project is one of the most significant energy projects in the Guangxi Beibu Bay Economic Zone. It is also the first nuclear power project in Guangxi province. It is designed to be built with six units with CPR1000 technology. Total investment for the project is RMB 70 billion. First two units will be built in phase one with investment of RMB 26 billion. It is expected that construction on the phase will be started officially in late July. Phase one will provide annually electricity of 15 billion kwh when in operation. Compared with coal-fired plant with the same capacity, phase one will save 6 million tons of coal, prevent about 14.82 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions and 136,400 tons of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides emissions.

Environmental benefits generated by phase one of Fangchenggang nuclear power plant will be equivalent of about 98,400 hectares of forest.
