China National Nuclear Corp. (CNNC), the nation’s largest reactor builder, started operations at the Azelik uranium mine in Niger, its first overseas mine producing the nuclear fuel. A ceremony was held to mark the commencement of operation, with leaders and representatives from related nuclear companies.

The Azelik uranium is an intergovernmental project between China and Niger. It was designed by the Fourth Research and Design Institute of CNNC. Construction was supervised by Star Construction project Management Company of Nuclear Industry.
The China Hydropower Engineering Group Co. is general contractor of the project.
