Key words: nuclear fusion, MW strong-current ion beam, Hefei
The experimental facility of China’s artificial sun—EAST successfully obtained the MW strong-current ion beam in its neutral beam injection (NBI) system, according to Hefei Institute of Physical Science of Chinese Academy of Sciences on January 14th, 2012.
Researcher Mr. Hu Chundong said EAST’s NBI obtained a beam of 50 KV and 22 ampere with 106 milliseconds pulse width and 1.1 MW ion beam power during an experiment. Hence, the goal of researching MW ion beam in EAST-NBI system has been achieved. It is a milestone in the construction of China’s first MW strong-current ion beam and high-power neutral beam injection facility.
According to Mr. Hu, the experiment laid a solid foundation for the debugging of long-pulse and high-octane ion beam in the coming stage and provided a reliable support for the final goal of EAST’s heating system—research of 2-4 MW NBI system.
