China's State Nuclear Power Technology nets India contracts

China's State Nuclear Power Technology Corp (SNPTC), co-founded by the State Council and four large state-owned enterprises including China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC), has secured orders from India to design power plants in the country.
The move suggests SNPTC's intention of enhancing its presence in the overseas markets, as China's power demand is weakening amid the global financial crisis.
According to a statement released by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), SNPTC's Shandong unit and a power construction company in the eastern province will jointly help design two 1,980-megawatt coal-fired power plants in India, where power construction demand is stronger than that of the domestic market.
The Beijing-based company also clinched cooperation agreements with other countries including South Korea, Brazil, Myanmar and Mozambique. A coal-fired power plant in Brazil is the largest energy project built in the country by a Chinese company, as per industry sources.
