CNNC may bid for Jordanian US$3.5-bln nuclear plant contract

China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC), a large-scale state-owned enterprise in China, may join the bidding for the right to build a nuclear power plant in Jordan worth US$3.5 billion, sources reported, citing Khaled Toukan, chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC).
Toukan said that France-based Areva, Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO), Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL) and Russia's AtomStroyExport are already bidding for the contract, but that Jordan may take as long as three years to choose a partner for the project.
After the completion of the nuclear power plant, which could take four to five years to complete construction, the plant could a capacity of above one gigawatt (GW).
