China's Hu Jintao pledges to curb carbon dioxide emissions at UN summit

President Hu Jintao told the UN conference on September 22 that China will develop renewable energy and nuclear energy ”vigorously” in order to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
“We will endeavor to cut carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by a notable margin by 2020 from the 2005 level,” Hu told a UN session on climate change in New York.
