On October 16th, a Chinese delegation from China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), led by Yangchangli, vice general manager of CNNC, attended an international meeting held in the capital city Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan. The purpose of the meeting is to hammer out strategies and countermeasures for the global economic crisis by 2030. Political officials and businessmen, academics from around 20 countries attended the meeting.
The Chinese delegation was invited by Kairat Kelimbetov, the Chairman of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna, to attend the meeting. The Fund was established in October 2008 and was considered a major measure to tackle economic crisis. It has 80% of the national assets of Republic of Kazakhstan and the state-run Kazakh Kazatomprom nuclear firm is its wholly owned subsidiary.
The delegation also visited the situ leaching mine owned by Kazakh Kazatomprom and had discussion for broader cooperation.
