The French industrial group CNIM announced on Friday that this month it would deliver its first exhaust system for spent fuel to the EPR reactors under construction in Finland and China.

This equipment is contained by a large truck accompanied by various accessories and systems used for transfering spent nuclear fuel assemblies from the pool to a storage container, and then the container is transported outside the plant safely, said CNIM in a statement.

Questioned by AFP, a spokesman for the group did not reveal what this first trolley EPR dechargement was intended for. CNIM won contracts with Areva to equip such systems the EPR under construction at Olkiluoto (Finland) and two under construction in Taishan (China).

However, for the EPR under construction at Flamanville, EDF had retained a competitor Czech Skoda JS, for the provision of the unloading system.
